Harvard is a tax exempt institution that both provides and receives many benefits from the state and towns. It does make some payments in place of taxes, but I wonder how these compare to what it would pay if it were a for-profit institution.
For all I know it is paying only a small fraction of what profitable firms pay. Do you have any idea what it provides Mass. and Cambridge for the very important services it receives and how it compares to what a for-profit firm would pay?
