Which Team Should I Cheer For?
Time for a bit of DOL frivolity. Thanks to a colleague who has an extra ticket, I'm going to tonight's NCAA Championship game in Atlanta. I have no connections to either Florida or Ohio State so I'm wondering which team I should cheer for. I've opened comments until I leave about 3:30 this afternoon. Arguments based on economics (or the economics departments at the two schools) will be most convincing. Posted by E. Frank Stephenson at 09:08 AM in Sports

I hope they both lose! Posted by: Bob Lawson at April 2, 2007 09:20 AMThe enemy of my enemy is my friend. Of the final four schools, UCLA has traditionally had the best economics department. Florida beat UCLA. Therefore Florida must lose. Plus, Ohio State University Press publishes the relatively useful Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking. Root for Ohio State. Posted by: Lawrence H. White at April 2, 2007 11:39 AMFlorida, for no other reason than to have OSU lose twice in a Nat'l Championship in the same year to the same team. I wonder what excuses they will devise this time? The statesman who should attempt to direct private people in what manner they ought to employ their capitals would not only load himself with a most unnecessary attention, but assume an authority which could safely be trusted, not only to no single person, but to no council or senate whatever, and which would nowhere be so dangerous as in the hands of a man who had folly and presumption enough to fancy himself fit to exercise it. -Adam Smith
